Prague makes a strong case for going alone, and the reasons run deeper than price. A study of 30 European cities gave it a perfect score, with high safety ratings both during the day and at night. It also builds in room to slow down, with more than 200 spas and over 50 parks, so a solo trip can mix sightseeing with real downtime. The city has plenty to keep you busy, from Prague Castle, which dates back to the 9th century, to the Charles Bridge, and a vibrant expat community means company is easy to find. About €1,000 covers five days of food, transport and a hotel, and travelers voted it the No. 2 city in Europe this year. Start with the castle and the bridge, then leave a day for the spas.

A short ferry ride from Iloilo City, Guimaras is known as the Mango Capital of the Philippines, and it works mangoes into every course, from a salad with dried fish to grilled bangus stuffed with slices to halo-halo piled with chunks. Between meals there is Roca Encantada, a 1910 mansion that seems to float on a rock off Navalas Beach, and Alubihod Beach, with fine white sand, yellow rocks and a launch point for island hopping. The Trappist monastery, home to monks since 1972, makes mango jam and cashew products from its own orchards, and its chapel is open for a quiet hour. Hire an outrigger at Jordan Wharf for the short ride to Ave Maria Islet and settle the price before you go.
Until next time,
