My best “bad” decision ever...

(+ WFA companies for aspiring nomads)

Hey reader!

Today we’re featuring Cepee Tabibian—founder of She Hit Refresh and an expert recognized by Forbes, CNN Travel, and USA Today for helping women reinvent their lives abroad.

According to a new Gallup poll, 40% of U.S. women say they want to move abroadthe highest number ever recorded.

I was always one of those women. It just took me decades to finally crack the code.

My turning point came 10 years ago, when I boarded a one-way flight from Houston to Madrid.

The New Era of Living + Working Abroad

It wasn’t my first attempt. I had tried—and failed—at ages 24, 26, and 30, back when remote work wasn’t a thing and the digital nomad visa wasn’t even an idea. But at 35, I gave myself one last shot. I quit a good job, sold my car, and moved alone with no roadmap and no real plan, just a student visa to teach English and a gut feeling that I needed to do this.

Most people couldn’t understand why someone in their mid-30s would start over abroad. Honestly, I wasn’t sure I understood either. I didn’t know anyone my age who had done this. I kept asking myself: “Am I making a huge mistake?”

  • Teaching English wasn’t my dream

  • Getting a sponsored work visa felt impossible

  • Remote work seemed like something only available for software engineers or journalists

  • Hardly anybody knew what a “digital nomad” even was

But step by step, things started to fall into place: I got off the student visa. I landed my first non-teaching remote job. Then I built a career I didn’t even know existed (at 37?!). And I eventually became a Spanish citizen.

🔎 The opportunities that felt impossible for me 10 years ago are far more accessible today. Real work-from-anywhere jobs do exist—you just need to know where to find them. That’s why I curated my list of 25 legit WFA companies hiring right now across multiple industries.

What’s Possible Today (Real Women, Real Moves)

My path wasn’t linear or luxurious. I battled challenge after challenge, each one a dead end that might send me back to Texas…but I’m so glad I didn’t give up.

My biggest turning point came in 2017, when I created a Facebook group for women who wanted to move abroad after 30. I was thrilled when we hit 100 members after a few months… then shocked when it grew to 4,000 women in one year, just by word of mouth.

That group became She Hit Refresh, my business that’s helped thousands of women take their first steps toward a life abroad—but with the plan, confidence, and community I never had.

Fast forward to today:

I’m still in Spain.
I’m still obsessed with helping women reinvent their lives.
Somehow, this journey has led to features in Forbes, CNN Travel, USA Today, and even a documentary seen by 3M+people. Wild!

A lot has changed in the last decade. In particular, moving abroad is more accessible now than ever.

And while I had to figure everything out the long, messy way, the women I support now don’t have to.

With remote work, new visas, and programs like my Move Abroad After 30 Masterclass, the path abroad is clearer than it’s ever been.

Remote work + new visa pathways = opportunities I never had when I started.

Women in my community prove it every day:

  • Casey moved to Barcelona on the digital nomad visa

  • Jamie moved to the Netherlands as a freelancer after dreaming about it for 27 years

  • Daniella moved to Sweden after scoring a remote editing job

Despite all the new opportunities, the biggest blocker I see (by far!) is work. Specifically: finding a real work-from-anywhere job you can take abroad.

Want to Change Your Life? This Is Your Moment

Most “remote” job boards are filled with roles with geographic restrictions that actually limit you to… Anywhere, USA. They look promising until you read the fine print. Then suddenly you’re back at Square 1.

So I’ve done the heavy lifting for you.

I’ve curated a list of 25 legit Work-From-Anywhere companies hiring right now across tons of roles and fields, not just tech.

Fun Fact: The US-based company I once worked for from Spain is on the list!

Save yourself hours of fruitless searching and use that energy to apply instead.

Also, a hot tip: you don’t need the same salary you’re making now in order to move abroad. Like I told USA Today, you can actually live better on less in Europe!

Wherever you are in your journey—just curious, actively planning, or already halfway out the door—I’m cheering you on. If my story proves anything, it’s this:

You’re not too old. You’re not too late. And if you keep trying, you will find your path abroad.

6 Tips to Find a Real WFA Job

Finding a fully remote job is more than clicking “apply.” If you’ve been sending applications with no progress, it’s time to update your strategy. Here’s what I teach women in my community to land a role you can actually take abroad:

1. Start by getting clear on the role, flexibility, and industry you want.

2. Understand the strengths and skills you bring to the table.

3. Focus on Work-From-Anywhere companies—not “Anywhere, USA” roles

4. Optimize your LinkedIn profile with value-driven keywords.

5. Network intentionally with people inside your target companies.

6. Once you’ve built those relationships and narrowed your list, then you apply—with a strategy, not a hope.
