Finland just launched what it calls the world’s quietest festival, and the headliners are a black grouse, the wind, and bog moss. Hiljaa Fest is a free, self-guided nature-listening experience in Valkmusa National Park, with performers from the natural world spread across four stages along boardwalks and forest trails. There is no schedule, and the organizers admit some acts are a little mercurial, so not every performer is guaranteed to show up, including a rare moth that doubles as the park’s official symbol. The park sits about 90 minutes east of Helsinki and is known for its mire landscape, observation towers, and wetland habitats. The festival’s creative director says the aim is to slow down and notice small details, like the wind and the faint rustle of moss. It runs through October 31 and follows Finland’s outdoor code, though the trails aren’t currently suitable for visitors who need mobility aids. If you’re anywhere near Helsinki, it’s a good excuse to log off and just listen.

A travel writer with nearly two decades of experience says her best trip hack isn’t a gadget or a packing trick, it’s checking the State Department’s travel website before every international trip. The site spells out entry, visa, and passport rules for each destination, which matters because requirements can change quickly and some countries want your passport valid for months after you arrive. It also helps you dodge look-alike passport sites that charge a premium for forms and appointments the government offers for free, so one rule keeps you safe. If the address doesn’t end in .gov, don’t enter personal details or pay a fee. A few myths are worth busting too, like needing a visa only in Asia and Africa, or assuming a passport that’s valid for your whole trip is enough. If a passport goes missing abroad, the same site walks you through getting help from the nearest embassy or consulate. Spend five minutes there before you book anything nonrefundable, and save the nearest embassy’s contact info before you leave.
Most trips come with a to-do list. Stays, transfers, ferry times, tour tickets. This one doesn't.
Indus Travels is giving away a trip to Greece for two, and the details are handled. Nine nights with breakfast every day. Private transfers the whole way. An Athens city tour, a ticket into the Acropolis, and ferries from Piraeus to Mykonos and Santorini. Local taxes are covered too.
All you'd need to do is pack. Entry is free for US residents 18 and over, and the winner is picked at random on November 15.
